Welcome to autumn! It’s official. Today is the first day of fall. And while many Canadians are saddened by the fact that another summer has come and gone, the start of any new season is actually a great time for business owners. It offers them fresh opportunities to launch sales or new product lines. Are you a store owner looking for new ways to promote your business?
Here are three awesome autumn-based advertising strategies:
1. Include the colours of the season in all of your marketing.
Brown, orange, yellow – these colours are widely-used throughout the fall season to connote the changing of the leaves. Incorporating them into your marketing will showcase your company’s penchant for being on top of things. Think of it like this: what is your impression of a website that has summer-based imagery…in October? When you don’t keep things up to date, it gives consumers the impression you’re not up to much!
“Refreshing your advertising strategy to reflect the fall season doesn’t have to include one mention of pumpkin spice or falling leaves (though it could),” writes Stephanie Shirley of Mid-Atlantic Media Hub, “Rather, you can still achieve a cohesive fall-inspired campaign with the colors and themes you use. A sprinkling of these visuals, or a play on fall-themed words is all it takes to create a subtle hint of the new season in your existing ad placements.”
2. Utilize social media to plug your fall specials.
Quite frankly, there is no time of the year that is a bad one to use your social media accounts to promote your business. Jump on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and be sure to get the word out about all of the new specials your store will be offering this fall. Keep in mind that the holiday shopping season isn’t far around the corner. Savvy shoppers are already looking for deals and bargains.
“Don’t assume that your promotion will get noticed just from the traffic already going to your site,” warns Jason Obenhaus on Business2Community.com, “Make sure to get the word out by updating your ads and pushing out engaging posts on social media. Also make your specials easy to find on your website. The last thing you want to do is send your website visitors on a scavenger hunt to find the special that drove them there.”
3. Keep watchful of what your competitors are up to.
If you want to attract more customers to your store this fall, it will be important to intrigue them in ways your competitors aren’t. How is your competition marketing itself? Pay attention to their strategies – and then better them! As Shirley notes, it’s smart to stay in-the-know about what competing businesses may be doing in terms of their paid media and marketing strategies for fall.
“Monitoring your competitors is a common, and often necessary practice, but don’t aim to replicate what they do,” she advises, “Just like you should be your own person, you must be your own business, especially with your seasonal advertising. Let good strategies inspire you to develop your own GREAT strategies in return.”
