When the Toronto Blue Jays made it into the postseason for the first time since 1993, late last month, Canadian baseball fans were elated! And with good reason – as mentioned, the team had suffered a 22 year playoff drought. So, as you may have guessed, when tickets went on sale for postseason games at Rogers Centre, Blue Jays fans responded in droves. About an hour after tickets went on sale for the American League Division Series, they were sold out.
At least, this is what was reported by the Toronto Blue Jays’ official Twitter page. Apparently, there were over 70,000 people in the online Ticketmaster queue – most were unsuccessful in snagging tickets for any of the four games that went on sale. Needless to say, many Jays fans went without getting tickets and were forced to find other means – see websites that serve as online scalpers with jacked up prices.
“I got online several minutes before the official start time of the sale at 10 a.m.,” one of our colleagues informed us, “I attempted to get tickets to all of the games, but there was a long delay between me selecting tickets and the computer telling me that no more tickets were available.” The same experience was had this past Wednesday when tickets went on sale for the American League Championship Series.
Should our hometown Toronto Blue Jays defeat the Texas Rangers in the Division Series, they will move on to this next stage. Once again, Jays fans inundated Ticketmaster for requests for seats – and many came up short. “It happened all over again,” our colleague told us, “I was ready with my credit card in hand, and once again, I couldn’t get any seats. Man, the place is gonna be packed! I wish I could be there.”
Canadian POS Corporation would like to wish the Toronto Blue Jays the very best of luck in the postseason. Being headquartered in Toronto means that there are many Jays fans amongst the members of our staff. And it is not lost on us that it’s been far too long since our city has enjoyed a major sports championship. With that said, Canadian POS Corporation would also like to acknowledge the importance of using the internet as a source to make sales.
While our colleague was unsuccessful in securing playoff tickets, he did, however, point out a very important fact about the way that companies earn money in 2015. The internet seems to be the #1 go-to destination for purchases such as event tickets. And credit cards are undoubtedly the payment method of choice. This past week, the Canadian POS Corporation Blog highlighted the need for small businesses to invest in an e-commerce solution.
People enjoy online shopping. It provides a convenience like no other. “I remember when we used to have to line up for tickets,” commented our colleague, “Sometimes, you’d still be out of luck, so it was super annoying to have wasted my time and energy standing in a line for hours. At least, with the internet, I don’t have to leave the comfort of my home. I just log on from my computer, have my credit card handy and wait it out that way.”
At Canadian POS Corporation, we offer an e-commerce solution that enables business owners to easily and securely accept and process all credit cards – Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express – from their company websites. With it, they can secure real-time transaction processing and have a direct connection to our powerful and reliable processing network, eliminating the costs and complexities of dealing with a third-party gateway provider.
