On behalf of the entire Canadian POS team, we hope you’re thoroughly enjoying your summer so far! If you’re anything like us, you absolutely love the warm weather. It gives you so many opportunities to get out and about. If you’re a restaurant owner, you probably have a very similar mindset. You know that your customers enjoy eating outside, so you’ve opened up your patio.
It’s important to remember, however, that your restaurant has a lot of competition. Restaurant owners everywhere are vying for the attention of hungry diners-to-be. What will make them choose your establishment over the others? It’s all about finding ways to make your restaurant a cut above the rest.
Offer online ordering.
In our last blog, we revisited the ever-relevant topic of online shopping and offered our readers a few ways to help their online stores to be more appealing than their competitors. The same goes for restaurant owners. Allowing customers to place orders for their meals online is a great way to both boost sales and outshine other restaurants. As Jenny Brooks explains on TheRestaurantExpert.com, it’s wise to make it easy for customers to choose you over others.
“If you offer online ordering, you clear up your phones and the lines out your door,” she adds, “Guests won’t be forced to wait around just to be served. This allows your kitchen and staff to complete more orders in less time. This feature also makes you more discoverable online, and people will be able to order right from their computers or smartphones. Your guests want a convenient dining experience, not a complicated one.”
Market to millennials.
One of the many great things about young people is that they’re going to be around for a long time! Inspiring reasons to be loyal in millennials is a great way to secure long-term support. Not to mention, millennials are more likely to show loyalty than other age groups. According to Tim on Netwaiter.net, it’s wise to market to millennials because studies have shown them to be loyal to the point where they don’t need loyalty programs as incentives.
“What is more important to them is a frictionless experience,” Tim explains, “Remember, this group does not remember a time when there was no Amazon.com. Millennials think the whole world works like Amazon, or at least it should. You need to keep that in mind.”
Start up a loyalty program.
We just mentioned that research shows millennials can be loyal without loyalty programs. That doesn’t mean that loyalty programs don’t work. As Brooks points out, focusing on your existing customers is a great place to start when you want to increase sales. Loyalty programs work wonders in doing just that.
“According to LevelUp, members of a restaurant loyalty program spend 19% more on average when redeeming their reward, and their frequency of visiting your restaurant increases 75% between their first and tenth reward redemption,” she informs us, “A natural side effect of a loyalty program is increased visitors, as those looking for somewhere to eat might bring along coworkers, friends, or family to your restaurant.”
