Wishing You A Wonderful Holiday Season

On behalf of the entire Canadian POS team, we’d like to wish you a very joyous holiday season! This will be our last blog of 2019 as we prepare to enjoy the holidays just like everyone else. This year, it has worked out so that all of the major holidays are being celebrated during the same time.

Christmas takes place on December 25th, of course. And, this year, Hanukkah occurs between December 22nd and December 30th. Kwanzaa will be celebrated between December 26th and January 1st. No matter which holiday you celebrate (and even if you don’t celebrate a holiday), we hope that you’re able to enjoy some much-needed time with your loved ones over the next couple of weeks.

What can you do make your holiday season a wonderful one?

Focus on what makes you happy.

As a business owner, you likely spend a great deal of time thinking about the ways in which you can grow your business. While this is smart, of course, it can also create a great deal of stress. Take advantage of the time given you during the holiday season to have fun. What you do is totally up to you, but be sure to leave work behind and enjoy the things that make you happy with the people you love.

“Prioritizing your goals and setting aside time for them in advance can reduce your anxiety and restore a feeling of control that may have been missing in previous holidays,” writes Michael Lewis on MoneyCrashers.com, “Use your time wisely by doing only those things you enjoy and eliminating or substituting tasks you dislike or find boring.”

Catch up with family and friends.

Busy business owners often allow for weeks and months to go by without speaking to some of their friends and family members. They don’t do this on purpose – it’s just what comes with running a business. Use the holidays to get back in touch and share some special moments with the people you love.

“Practice compassionate listening with friends and family,” advises Lilian Cheung on her HuffPost.com list of mindful ways to enjoy the holiday season, “In order to truly appreciate the time we have with loved-ones, we must be fully present.”

Rest, relax and rejuvenate.

The importance of taking a break cannot be underestimated. By this time in the year, many entrepreneurs experience burnout. Take the holiday season for what it is – a time to rest, relax and rejuvenate. Doing so will fill you with the energy necessary to take on the new year with great anticipation.

Lewis also insists that you spend some of your holiday time focused on your health. “If possible, take a few days off before the holidays and pace yourself throughout the season, taking preventative measures to protect against colds and the flu,” he advises, “Drink plenty of water and eat fresh fruit and vegetables. Wash your hands frequently and consider getting the flu vaccine.”

Of course, the holidays haven’t quite started yet.
